From nytimes.com article about Lindsay Doran. Great insights about what really makes films satisfying. Audiences care most about how the relationships in the film are resolved, and not about whether or not the protagonist accomplishes what they are after. Good storytelling article in general, beyond just the film biz.

Roubini’s thoughts on European austerity are important, e.g., in the short run it’s not the right move.  It’s also worth noting what he says about misreading the consequences of quantitative easing on the US stock market during the recovery.

Our beloved Fuji

Very sadly — my mother, sister Dorothea, and I had to have my mother’s beloved dog Fuji put down yesterday, January 18th, 2012, between 9:30 and 10:00 AM MST.

Over the last  month Lymphoma had taken over, and the last week proved very difficult for her.

The picture above is from a fun ski day I had with Fuji a few years ago, and I think represents her well. She was an amazing dog, who was loved by many in my large family (especially my brother Alex, who picked Fuji and her sister Sheba out at the pound with our mother back in the summer of 1998).

Thankfully we still have Sheba, and my puppy Klaus to keep her company now that Fuji is no longer with us.  What follows is a picture of Louie (who was my sister Andrea’s dog; he passed in 2011), Fuji, and her sister Sheba from several summers ago. Fuji will always be in my heart.

I really like John Malkovich’s technobohemian scarves. Would like to get one.
